What 13,579 Dallas-Fort Worth Contractors Reveal About Local SEO in 2026

Richardson, United States - August 26, 2026 / RankGrid /

RICHARDSON, Texas, August 24, 2026. A new analysis of the Dallas-Fort Worth home-service market found that 29% of contractors have no website a customer can actually reach. The study, run by local-SEO agency RankGrid, pulled the Google Business Profiles of 13,579 home-service contractors across the metro and live-checked 10,828 of the websites those profiles link to.

The findings describe a market where most contractors rank on a handful of technical fundamentals rather than talent or reputation.

Nearly a third have no working website. Twenty percent of the 13,579 contractors list no website at all on their Google Business Profile. Of those that do list one, 11% pointed to a page that failed to load when RankGrid checked it, including expired domains, dead hosting, and parked pages. For a homeowner in the middle of a search, a missing site and a broken site look the same.

More than half are missing local schema. Of the 10,828 websites that were live-checked, 55% carried no local business schema on their homepage, and 39% had no structured data at all. Schema is the code that tells Google what a business does, where it works, and how to reach it. Without it, Google reads the page text and guesses. It is one of the cheapest ranking signals to add and one of the most commonly skipped.

Review counts are thinner than most owners assume. The median Dallas-Fort Worth contractor has just 33 reviews, and 45% have fewer than 25. Reviews are among the strongest local ranking signals, and most of the market sits on a low count.

Star ratings, by contrast, are nearly identical across the board. The average rating across all 13,579 businesses was 4.72, and 84% were rated 4.5 or higher. In a market where almost everyone looks good on stars, the rating is table stakes, not a differentiator.

"The gap between page one and page three in this market is not talent or trucks," said Miron Briley, founder of RankGrid. "It is a short list of technical fundamentals most contractors never get around to. A website that loads, schema that speaks to Google, and enough reviews to clear the field. Fix those three and your rank will move."

RankGrid collected the data in August 2026 using each profile's star rating and review count, then tested every listed website for reachability and homepage schema. The schema check reads the homepage, so a "no local schema" result means none was present on the homepage. The full report, including the review distribution and website health breakdown, is published at rankgrid.ai.

Contractors can check their own site against the report's benchmarks with RankGrid's free SEO scan, which tests the same signals measured in the study.
